MEDICC Announces “Women, Leadership & Health Equity” Trip to Cuba

January 15, 2019— MEDICC is accepting applications for this June 2 to 8 trip, when travelers will meet women in health and medicine, the arts, law and parliament, social and environmental sciences, the cooperative movement, NGOs and the expanding private sector…fascinating Cubans, pioneering women and their allies working for a gender-inclusive, equitable society.

“If you are a professional in one of these fields or just interested in focusing a gender lens on Cuba—meeting the women breaking scientific barriers and the glass ceiling as well, and sharing experiences with persons of all gender identities—then this is an extraordinary opportunity for personal connection,” noted Gail Reed, MEDICC Director of Cooperation.

During the week in Cuba, MEDICC will take participants from the World Heritage Site of Old Havana to a woman-led farming cooperative outside the city, health and biotech centers, and a school for the arts, among other sites.

The trip will be led by Kathleen Hower, Executive-in-Residence at the Graduate School of Public & International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh. Kathleen is founder of Global Links, a PAHO-recognized organization for its contribution to health in the Americas.
