Carlos Aragonés López BEng MS
Informatics engineer with a master’s degree in epidemiology. He heads the Biostatistics and Informatics Department at the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana, where he is also an instructor and associate researcher. Mr Aragonés was the founding director of the AIDS Prevention Group, and continues as its national coordinator.

Marité Bello Corredor MS
Microbiologist with a master’s degree in virology. Ms Bello is an instructor and associate researcher at the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana. She has won multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research; her current research includes molecular studies on hepatitis C virus in Cuba, hepatitis C in hemodialysis patients, development of an ELISA system to detect anti-hepatitis E IgM, and follow-up of children of mothers positive for hepatitis B surface antigen.

Héctor M. Díaz Torres MD MS PhD
Internist with a master’s degree in infectious and tropical diseases and a doctorate in medical sciences. Dr Díaz is an associate researcher at the National Retrovirus Diagnostic Reference Center in the AIDS Research Laboratory in Havana. He directs the patient-care protocol for retrovirus-related conditions at the Hermanos Almeijeiras Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital, also in Havana.

Alberto Morales Salinas MD MPH
Physician with dual specialties in family medicine and cardiology and a master’s degree in public health. Dr Morales heads the pre-operative cardiovascular surgery service at the Ernesto Che Guevara Heart Center in Villa Clara Province, where he also serves as research advisor. An associate professor and associate researcher at the Medical Sciences University of Villa Clara, Dr Morales’ research interests include primary prevention and management of heart disease.

Lissette Pérez Santos MS PhD
Virologist with a doctorate in medical sciences. Dr Pérez is assistant professor and associate researcher at the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute in Havana, where she works in the Microbiology Division’s Virology Department. Besides antiretroviral resistance, her research interests include congenital cytomegalovirus infection, herpesvirus in pediatric transplant patients, human papillomavirus detection and typing, and the role of human herpesvirus 8 in Kaposi sarcoma.
