Mikhail Benet MD PhD Physiologist with advanced degrees in molecular biology and pharmacology. Professor of physiology, physiopathology and research methods at the Medical University of Cienfuegos. Dr Benet has published extensively on non-communicable chronic diseases, including the CARMEN study.
José M. Cartaya Yrastorza MD MS Pediatrician and intensivist with master’s degrees in hospital administration and emergency medicine in primary care. Dr Cartaya is consulting professor at the Medical University of Villa Clara.
Teresa Collazo Mesa PhD Biochemist. Dr Collazo is a senior scientist at Cuba’s National Medical Genetics Center in Havana. She is principal investigator in the research program for molecular characterization of cystic fibrosis in Cuba.

Emma Domínguez Alonso MD Physician specializing in biostatistics. Dr Domínguez is a researcher and methodologist at the National Endocrinology Institute in Havana. Her research focuses are diabetes, reproductive health, lipid disorders and thyroid disease.

Rebeca S. González Fernández MD MS Family physician with a master’s degree in comprehensive women’s health. Assistant professor, Medical University of Havana, and national programs coordinator, TecnoSuma International, Immunoassay Center, BioCubaFarma, Havana, Cuba.

Agustín Lage Dávila MD PhD Biochemist. Dr Lage is Director of the Molecular Immunology Center and former Deputy Director of the national Oncology and Radiobiology Institute. From 1985 to 1990, he also coordinated the National Cancer Mortality Reduction Program. His current areas of research are immune system regulation and cancer vaccines.

Josefina Lugo Alonso MD Physician specializing in biostatistics. Dr Lugo is an associate researcher at Havana’s national Oncology and Radiobiology Institute, where she focuses on clinical trials and quality of life.

Luis A. Méndez-Rosado MS PhD Biologist with a master’s degree in medical genetics and doctorate in health sciences. A senior researcher at the National Medical Genetics Center, he was a founding member of Cuba’s Human Genetics Society.

Estela Morales-Peralta MD PhD Clinical geneticist. Dr Morales-Peralta is full professor and senior researcher at the National Medical Genetics Center in Havana. She is a member of Cuba’s National Genetics Expert Group.

Miladys Orraca Castillo MD MS PhD Clinical geneticist with a master’s degree in comprehensive child health and doctorate in medical sciences. Dr Orraca is full professor at the Medical University of Pinar del Río. Her research centers on Neurofibromatosis 1.

Yamilé Peña Quián MD PhD Internist specializing in nuclear medicine. Dr Peña has been director of research at the National Clinical Research Center since 2004. Her investigations focus on nuclear medicine applied to a range of conditions, particularly cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Fernando Rodríguez González MD MS Cardiologist and family physician with a master’s degree in emergency medicine. His research focuses on predicting risk in acute myocardial events.

Miguel Rodríguez-Vázquez MD Clinical geneticist. Dr Rodríguez-Vázquez directs the Sancti Spíritus Provincial Medical Genetics Center. He has twice been awarded Cuba’s National Health Prize.
