Justo Reinaldo Fabelo-Roche MS PhD
Psychologist with a master’s degree in clinical psychology and a doctorate in health sciences. Dr Fabelo is a full professor and senior researcher at the Medical University of Havana, Cuba, where he coordinates the Center for Academic Development in Drug Addiction (CEDRO).
Halbert Hernández-Negrín MD
Internist at the Mario Muñoz University Polyclinic in Ranchuelo, Villa Clara, Cuba. Dr Hernández is an instructor and adjunct researcher at the Medical University of Villa Clara, in Santa Clara, and a doctoral candidate at the National School of Public Health in Havana, Cuba. His doctoral work focuses on the social determinants of health and mortality in systemic lupus erythematosus in Cuba.
Lisset Ley-Vega MD MS
Physician specializing in pediatrics and cardiology with a master’s degree in comprehensive child health. Dr Ley is an associate professor and associate researcher at José Luis Miranda Provincial Pediatric University Hospital in Santa Clara, Cuba. She has been active in the fields of pediatric and fetal cardiology for 20 years and has been highly decorated in her work in teaching, research and medicine.
Liuber Yans Machado-Zaldivar MS PhD
Biochemist with a master’s degree in biochemistry and a doctorate in health sciences. Dr Machado is an associate researcher at the HIV/AIDS Research Laboratory (LISIDA) in San José de las Lajas, Cuba. His research focuses on the epidemiological, clinical, taxonomic and genetic characterizations of human retroviruses in Cuba, particularly HIV/AIDS.
Claudia Madeleine Medina-Navarro MS
Neuropsychologist with master’s degrees in neuropsychology and pediatric neuropsychology. Ms Medina coordinates the Memory and Cognition Clinic at the Angeles Hospital in Puebla, Mexico. She is currently a doctoral candidate in psychology. Her research focuses on neuropsychological interventions in patients with acquired brain damage, neurodegenerative diseases and psychiatric conditions, as well as on the neuropsychological impact of COVID-19.
Niurka Molina-Águila MD MS
Physician with dual specialties in family medicine and epidemiology and a master’s degree in infectious disease. Dr Molina is an assistant professor at the Epidemiological Research and Surveillance Department, Diagnosis and Reference Research Center, Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), Havana, Cuba. She is currently researching asymptomatic
SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Mayasil Morales-Pérez MD MS
Physician with dual specialties in family medicine and pharmacology, with a master’s degree in pharmacoepidemiology. Dr Morales is an associate researcher and assistant professor at the Medical University of Havana, Cuba. She is an award-winning researcher whose work focuses mainly on antivirals and ethnopharmacobotany in Cuba.
Anamary Suárez-Reyes MD
Physician specializing in family medicine and immunology, Dr Suarez is an instructor at the Medical University of Havana (UCMH); and a researcher at the Immunology Laboratory, National Oncology and Radiobiology Institute (INOR), Havana, Cuba. Her research focuses on immunology and oncology and she is currently investigating Biomodulin T’s potential in rehabilitating the immune response in chemotherapy patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Noel Taboada-Lugo MD MS

Dr Taboada is an associate professor at the Medical University of Villa Clara, Santa Clara, Cuba and an associate researcher at the Villa Clara Provincial Medical Genetics Center. He is currently pursuing a PhD focusing on population genetics and the environmental origins of health.
Carmen Rosa Valenciano-Rodríguez MD MS
Clinical geneticist with a master’s degree in comprehensive child health. Dr Valenciano is an assistant professor
and adjunct researcher at the Provincial Medical Genetics Department, Las
Tunas, Cuba. Both her academic and clinical work are dedicated to the field of medical genetics and in particular to multidisciplinary care for genodermatosis patients.
Yordania Velázquez-Ávila MD MS
Dermatologist with a master’s degree in infectious disease. Dr Velázquez is an assistant professor and adjunct researcher at Mártires de las Tunas Pediatric Provincial Hospital, Las Tunas, Cuba. In 2010, she started a consultancy providing multidisciplinary care for genodermatosis patients. Dr Velázquez is currently pursuing a PhD
in biomedical science.
Carlos Agustín Villegas-Valverde MD MS
Physician specializing in family medicine and immunology with master’s degrees in infectious disease and medical education. Dr Villegas is an associate professor at the Medical University of Havana and an associate researcher at the National Oncology and Radiobiology Institute (INOR), in Havana, Cuba. He is currently participating in an international study investigating the use of stem cells in COVID-19 treatment.
